Picture That Dictionary is a free online talking picture dictionary for people who or are poor or beginning readers.

The site allows you to hear the pronunciation of each word in an English accent by a native English (from England) speaker. The site has a talking picture dictionary of over 5,500 words and each word in the dictionary has an accompanying photograph or image.


All words have a text and audio breakdown so you can see and hear each syllable. In addition there are pages on: Rules The Rules section includes Spelling Tips and Rules which will help you better understand how words are written properly. Letter Sounds The Letter Sounds section shows the letter sounds of the English alphabet to help people learn the alphabet and learn the a-z soundings. Help The Help section has audio so you can hear exactly how any section of the website works. Categories In the Categories section you can find words which are related to a particular category. For example, fruit, vegetables, transport. This is very useful for everyday activities such as shopping. Scenarios In the Scenarios section you can learn the spellings of everyday objects in their surroundings. When you mouse over and then click on a specific item in the scenario page such as the towel in the “Bathroom” scenario you will see an image of the towel along with a text and audio breakdown for it.
